The History of International Watch Co has been years long and full of many interesting, even essential, timepieces. Here we have a timeless classic IWC gent's wristwatch in beautiful restored condition from the 1950’s.
It has a rare and unusual 18k solid rose gold case with rare and elegant spider or claw lugs and is driven by the famous mechanical manual movement inhouse caliber 89 and presented with an unused black leather strap and rosegold plated buckle which sets off all features beautifully.
Case, dial, movement all fully signed with the original IWC signature. The watch runs strongly and keeps time.
This watch is also extremely wearable with only the most minor signs of wear for its age.
Please examine the pictures closely to confirm the description and condition.
All images are from the actual watch for sale. We guarantee the authenticity of every item that we sell and all of your submitted requests will be dealt with discretely.
- Case & Crown -
The watch comes in a 3-piece solid 18K Rose Pink gold case with Beautiful spider lugs that is in excellent shiny condition. It measures approx. 37 mm width (not including the crown) by 44mm (lug to lug) and about 10mm thick. Some very small evidence of wear or only very tiny imperfections to its surface might be visible under magnification, but this watch has been well preserved. The angles between the lug top and sides are are still very crisp and not at all smoothed.
The spider lugs give it a real flavor of art-deco and makes the watch look even bigger and give a well-balanced look on the wrist.
The case back is marked with IWC 18K 0.750 and with serial 1239370.
The crown is not signed and probably a replacement but matches the case nicely.
-Dial & Hands -
The silvered dial has the matte cream color and is in excellent condition and has beautiful raised arab numerals alternated with pointer dagger markers.
The minute track are drilled dots which are typical on IWC dials. Pink-gold colored leaf hands in excellent shiny condition.
The acrylic crystal is non-original replacement with no signs or scratches.
- Movement -
The Caliber 89 was developed in 1946 just after World War II. It is not particularly complicated but it’s a simple, reliable, and accurate movement with center sweep second. It is fully signed, well finished and was made in mass production up to the early 1970’s. It carries Breguet hairspring, adjustment screws on balance spokes and features incabloc shock-protection.
The caliber number C89 is stamped under the balance wheel. Movement serial 1204300.
The case and movement serial numbers are compatible and date the watch to the same period.
The watch starts running immediately and is keeping time well as it has been overhauled and regulated by a professional watchmaker in november 2018.
