In the early 1950’s Longines started a new development and marketing strategy with a named line or family of watches, starting with the Conquest and after the Flagship, Admiral and Grand Prize among others.
Throughout the 1950’s Longines put a lot of effort in developing reliable automatic in-house movements. Launched in the early 1960’s caliber 340 was the base movement for the last entirely new automatic in house movements made by Longines. It further developed an unusual design with the concept of not centrally pivoted winding rotors, being actually off-set from the center point, taken from the earlier Longines automatic calibers 19 A and 14.17. This caliber 345 shows the ability of Longines in building automatics. It combined a great finish with great durability and accuracy and found a way to use a ball bearing rotor which made a very efficient system. The rotor is mounted on ball bearings rather than the jewels used in the earlier movements. As a result friction upon the rotor is being reduced and together with the eccentric design enables the watch to wind with the slightest movement of the wearer. The toothed outer circle is part of the rotor also and helped stabilizing the rotor movement. The balance wheel has an unusually large diameter compared to the overall movement size in the attempt to obtain major accuracy.
This trendsetting highly collectable Longines steel wristwatch with date function was manufactured in 1966 , well protected in a in solid one piece monocoque steel case and is driven by a mechanical automatic 345 movement. It has an original silvered sunburst dial and comes with a quality brand light brown calf leather strap in mint condition having never been worn and generic stainless steel buckle which sets off all features beautifully and looks stunning on the wrist.
Case, dial, crown and movement all fully signed with the original Longines signature and carries original Longines crystal. It has been serviced and runs great.
Difficult to find one in such a condition and is guaranteed to be entirely authentic.

– Case & Crown -
The 1-piece case is classically styled with straight facetted lugs that is in excellent condition. It measures 35 mm width (not including crown) by 40,5 mm length (lug to lug) and 10,5 mm thick. The bezel and case are shiny and the back has contrasting circular finish.
The case presents well sharp and shiny and looks great to the naked eye with no evidence of abuse, only tiny imperfections and wear visible under loupe inspection.
The edges, bevels and angles between the lug top and sides are still very defined and not at all smoothed by wear or incompetent polishing.
The back is signed on the outside with “use Longines chuck” and “waterproof”. For thismono-cocque 1 piece case design, Longines designed dedicated tools for easy removal of the original armoured crystal.
On the inside the case back is stamped “Longines – Fab Suisse Swiss made acier inox for stainless steel, and ref. number 7451 3.
The original crown is signed “Longines” around its outer surface and again features the company’s winged hourglass and allows easy winding. The edges of the crown are well defined and not smoothed.
- Dials & Hands –
The silvered dial is in excellent condition with engraved markers alternated with applied batons in cross position, the applied Longines wings – a great and rare example of the essential style in vogue at that time.
This particular dial configuration has gorgeous sunburst-finished, and 6-9-12 positions are clearly indicated both by Tritium square markers. This lume might have been replaced at some time.
All printing is clear and crisp. The dial is signed as "Longines, Automatic and swiss made” with the correct old-style letter type. This dial can be considered almost mint with minor patina and some oxidation in the engraved markers.
The hour and minute hands are all original Longines straight baton shaped and. All hands are silvered and in shiny condition with only tiny sports of wear or discoloration.
The acrylic crystal has been replaced with an original Longines spare part, fitted with tension ring and bevelled edge. It shows no signs or scratches.
